Histopathology helps the treating doctors in prognosis and treatment management. An accurate and timely histopathological diagnosis is very critical for patient care.
Histopathology is an irreplaceable and the most relevant specialty for accurate and confirmatory diagnosis for any changes at tissue level.
Involves morphologic study of cells. It includes various branches such as aspiration cytology, exfoliative cytology, gynaecological cytology and Non-gynaecological.
In Aspiration cytology, cells are obtained by fine needle aspiration (the process is called as Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology or FNAC in short). These cells are examined by Surgical Pathologists. In Exfoliative Cytology, specimens containing the required cells are exfoliated from body cavities and surfaces. Gynaecological Cytology involves Pap smears (cervical smears). It is a screening test for early detection of Cervical Cancer. Non-gynaecological cytology is mainly concerned with fluids (Urine, Pleural, Peritoneal, Cerebrospinal, Bronchoalveolar lavage, Sputum)
A technique which uses specific antibodies to detect the presence of various antigens in cells of a tissue. The process is based on the principles of biological genome.
